The blame game between rival groups claiming control of Basketball Federation of India (BFI) continues with the Poonam Mahajan-led faction saying that the K Govindraj headed group is not keen to solve the dispute.
The two rival groups were supposed to meet the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials yesterday but Govindraj did not turn up, claimed a release from Mahajan-led faction.
"Having postponed the scheduled meeting between two warring factions in BFI and IOA, the apex body for sports in India invited both the BFI groups elected in Bangalore and Pune respectively for the third meeting on July 28.
"The third meeting called by the IOA with an aim to end the ongoing dispute in BFI, happened but only one faction led by Poonam Mahajan attended the meeting while the other group led by K Govindraj again failed to appear," read the statement.
It further claimed: "Instead, Govindraj the elected president in Bangalore AGM of BFI sent his representation via Secretary Chander Mukhi Sharma asking IOA to defer the meeting. Earlier too Govindraj tried to avoid the meeting called to solve the dispute between both the parties. In the absence of one of the warring factions and on Govindraj's personal request the IOA had postponed the scheduled July 15 and July 19 meetings."
The IOA had granted recognition to the Mahajan-headed BFI in April while world body FIBA, in a letter sent on May 23, recognised the Bangalore election.
