Govt allows export of sanders wood confiscated by Karnataka

The commerce ministry today permitted export of about 186 tonnes red sanders wood confiscated by the Karnataka police and forest department.
Relaxing prohibition on overseas shipments of the wood, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has permitted Karnataka government to export 186.588 tonnes of red sanders wood, in log for, either by itself or through entity/entities authorised by it.
"The condition stipulated... shall be relaxed to allow export of 186.588 MT of red sanders wood in the form of lon, obtained out of confiscated/ seized stock by the police and forest departments, State Government of Karnataka," said a notification of the DGFT.
It further said Karnataka should finalise the modalities including allocation of quantities to various entities for export of the respective quantities within six months.
The whole process of export should be completed within a year, it added.
