Govt appeals to Oppn not to stall Parliament

Appealing to the Opposition not to stall Parliament, government today said it was prepared for any debate and sought cooperation for passage of important bills during the coming monsoon session.
"In a democracy, debate and discussions are the only process for finding solution ... The government is ready for any debate. The Opposition should not try to stall Parliament proceedings," Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the government was giving priority for development of the country and that the Opposition should also cooperate in this regard.
Opposition parties, led by Congress, have already made it clear that issues such as Vyapam scam and Lalit Modi controversy would be vociferously taken up during the session.
They have demanded 'satisfactory response' from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on these matters.
He said the session, commencing on July 21, would take up several important legislations for passage. Some bills pending with the Standing Committees would also be taken up for discussion in Parliament, he added.

Naidu, who also holds the portfolios of Urban Development and Housing, said the Tamil Nadu government should decide on 12 towns eligible for being converted into Smart cities. The Centre had given guidelines for the same.
