As the Parliament went into a recess today, BJP said it is watching the government's position with a keen eye and maintained that though it is not mulling a no-confidence motion yet it is clear that the Manmohan Singh regime is cornered by its own allies.
BJP alleged that contrary to government claims the CBI raids on DMK heir apparent M K Stalin over a case of alleged evasion of duty in import of SUVs, the searches were conducted to send a message to other UPA allies to fall in line.
"Government has got the budget, rail budget and Jharkhand budget passed in this session. Though important business has been conducted in Parliament, government is clearly cornered by its own allies. It appears to be in a critical condition. We are keeping an eye on the developing situation," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.
Asked if BJP is thinking of bringing a no-confidence motion against the government as DMK has walked out and SP is unhappy with it, Hussain was non-committal.
"We are watching the situation. Raids are conducted by CBI in Chennai and the message goes to Lucknow... We will take the right decision at the right time," Hussain said, referring to SP which is in power in Uttar Pradesh.
He also took potshots at the Prime Minister for claiming that the CBI raids on Stalin were not ordered by the government.
"Does this mean that all raids by CBI are conducted on the directions of the government? We used to level this charge earlier. Now the Prime Minister has himself said this. Did the government write Chennai by mistake instead of Lucknow," he asked.
