The government has approved a squad of more than 140 commando trained personnel for securing the offices of country's external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), in the national capital.
The security personnel tasked for this duty will be drawn from the paramilitary CISF and they will replace an earlier stationed squad of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Sources said the armed CISF squad will provide round-the-clock security to the agency's three important installations located in central Delhi from where its administration and operations are conducted.
A security and threat analysis of the RAW facilities in Delhi was recently conducted and the Ministry of Home Affairs approved security from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after going through the report prepared in this regard, sources said.
The CISF is the nominated force for securing government buildings.
The squad wil render access control, frisking of people and material in the RAW buildings and the armed squad will also have a vehicle-borne quick reaction team to respond to any emergency.
The CISF has a specialised Government Building Security (GBS) wing for this task and a total of 142 personnel have been sanctioned for the new task.
Central government ministries and other public installations in the national capital are under the security cover of this CISF unit.
