"The new EMC to be set up by Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation has been approved," Additional Secretary, Department of Electronics and IT, Ajay Kumar said.
The EMC, to be spread over 69.98 acre area in Raipur (Chhattisgarh), would house an eco-system to support production of electronic products. The project would cost Rs 89.22 crore and the central government will provide Rs 43.07 crore.
The government plans to set up 200 EMC across the country under National Policy on Electronics 2012. The Department of Electronics and IT (Deity) has already given in-principle approvals to 17 greenfield EMCs.
Under the EMC scheme, the Centre provides an aid capped at 50 per cent of the project cost subject to a ceiling of Rs 50 crore for every 100 acres of land. For larger areas, pro-rata ceiling applies.
The government also provides support for brownfield EMC. The assistance for the projects in Brownfield Electronics Manufacturing Clusters is restricted to 75 per cent of the project cost subject to a ceiling of Rs 50 crore.
Till date it has approved only one brownfield EMC which is located in Mysore while given in-principle approval to three other brownfield EMCs.
