Noting that the expenditure on coconut farming has been rising day-by-day, Amalapuram MP Harsha Kumar said in a letter to Pawar that "the minimum procurement price should be at least Rs 7,000" to help the coconut farming community.
He said the present system of pricing is not farmer -friendly and the coconut farming community is getting only Rs 5,100 for milling copra, which is not supportive.
"The onus is on the government and we should see that a competitive price for his produce," he said and asked the Agriculture Minister to set up purchase centres and procure coconuts to save the coconut farming community.
