"Minister of State for Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh has urged the Members of Parliament to contribute for rehabilitation and reconstruction works for the affected areas of Jammu & Kashmir from their MPLADS," a press release said.
In a letter to all MPs , Singh said as per Para 2.8 of the Guidelines on Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (which has been amended recently), MPs can recommend up to a maximum of Rs one crore for rehabilitation works for the affected areas anywhere in the country in the event of calamity of severe nature.
He said, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state on September 7 has stated that the crisis is a national disaster.
Under the MPLAD scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs five crore per annum to be taken up in his or her constituency.
The Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha can recommend works in one or more districts in the state from where he or she has been elected.
