The government has also directed the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) to create a web portal where persons interested in developing skills can register themselves.
"Skill Development and Entrepreneurship are critical for developing the youth as a productive workforce. We have initiated the process to revise the National Policy on Skill Development 2009," Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship told reporters.
He said that opinions are being obtained from various ministries and once that is done, a draft policy will be placed on the Ministry's website inviting comments from the public and other stakeholders.
"This initiative will mobilise about 150 million youths, inspire youth all over the country and make a significant contribution to the task of nation-building," he said.
The focus of the government is on youth-led development and so it plans to introduce "National Young Leaders Programme" for developing leadership qualities among the youth, he said.
"NYKS youth clubs shall be enabled to evolve as neighbourhood youth Parliament to get the village youth actively involved in governance process. This will inculcate the spirit of dignity of labour and community service and develop the personality of 1.67 crore youths," he said.
