"..Government is committed for the benefits and safety of the transgenders in the country," Gehlot said in a tweet.
Members of transgender community visited the minister's office and tied a rakhi to his wrist, Gehlot said in a tweet.
He said transgenders are very happy as a bill has been introduced in the house.
Over a year after the Rajya Sabha had approved a private members bill to protect the rights of transgenders, the government in July this year cleared a similar legislation to protect such persons from discrimination.
Transgender community is among one of the most marginalised communities in the country because they don't fit into the stereotypical categories of gender of men or women.
They face problems ranging from social exclusion to discrimination, lack of education facilities, unemployment and lack of medical facilities.
