In the run up to the second anniversary of the Swacch Bharat Mission, which was launched by the Modi government on October 2, 2014, the Centre is considering a series of 'thematic drives' to spread the message of cleanliness.
Official sources told PTI that as the government tries to expedite things on the 'swacch' front, it is considering a series of thematic drives to send home the message to various sections involved.
"We have drawn a calender of events and aim to link it with special thematic drives. For instance, August 12 is the International Youth Day, it is suggested that organisations like NSS and NCC would be involved. Youth volunteers could sensitise citizens while youth groups could take mass pledges," a senior official said.
Similarly, on August 29, which is the National Sports Day, all sports clubs could be involved and sporting icons may take up special cleaning drives while 'Swacchta runs' could also be organised, an official said.
September 5th is Teachers' day and HRD ministry according to the plan could organise sensitisation meetings involving teachers. On September 27, which is World Tourism Day, special cleaning drives could be taken at all major tourist places.
"The government is considering activities on various days of national importance and ensure that the message of cleanliness is spread with greater thrust. Naturally on the second anniversary there will be a massive cleanliness drive," a senior official said.
The Modi government also has been focusing on bolstering the communication outreach of 'Swacch Bharat' along with another flagship programme 'Ganga Rejuvenation' for which it has set up a High Powered Committee headed by Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
In a meeting held earlier this month, Jaitley had emphasised on creating synergy and converging the resources of various ministries. He also spoke about the need for choosing the right content for different media, officials said.
