The Ghaziabad district administration has set a target for various government departments to plant around 5.50 lakh saplings during this monsoon, according to a senior official.
Besides, several Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs) have also joined hands with the district administration in this plantation drive, District Forest Officer (DFO) Dikhsha Bhandari said.
Today, around 4,000 saplings were planted by primary students in Wave City, its office bearer Bhavna Prasad said.
The different species of saplings would contribute towards improving air quality in the region, Prasad added.
Environment Alert Society has also planted 20,000 saplings in different areas of the city within this month, president of the society and environmentalist Vijay Pal Baghel said.
