Govt finalises 2 electronic mftg clusters; in-principal for 8

The government has finalised two electronic manufacturing clusters (EMCs) and has given an in-principal approval to eight others as part of its efforts to boost domestic manufacturing of electronic products.
Speaking at the first meeting of the Centre and the states to deliberate on various initiatives under Digital India, Prasad said that another two EMCs have been recommended for in-principal approval.
It is the vision of this government to make India self sufficient in electronic manufacturing capacity. Government is committed to make India part of the list of potential places to invest in this sector, Prasad told State IT Ministers and Secretaries here.
"Department of Electronics and IT (DeitY) has accorded final approval to green field two EMCs and in-principal to seven greenfield EMCs and one common facility centre in brown field EMC," he added.
Besides, the department has recommended in-principal approval for two EMCs in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Prasad said.
Both the approved EMCs are in Madhya Pradesh, while of the seven in-principal EMCs, two are in Telengana and one each in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha and Rajasthan, he added.

The common facility centre in brown field EMC is for the state of Karnataka, the Minister said.
DeitY has identified and notified 51 EMCs for the Modified Special Package Scheme (M-SIPS). The Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) units under these notified clusters will be able to avail benefits under M-SIPS.
DeitY has notified seven EMCs each in Himachal Pradesh & Maharashtra, six each in Rajasthan & West Bengal, three each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana , Kerala & Madhya Pradesh, 2 each in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand and one each in Puduchery, Punjab, Telengana and Tamil Nadu.
