Government has given environment clearance for expansion of AIIMS Residential Colony at Ayurvigyan Nagar in the national capital, which would entail an investment of about Rs 360 crore.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), an autonomous apex hospital that offers health care along with a teaching medical college facility for higher education, provides residential accommodation for the staff and students.
The administrative staff has decided to expand the residential colony with demolition of some existing old structures for their staff.
AIIMS had applied for the environment clearance (EC) in December 2014.
"The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) examined the proposal in May and recommended granting of EC to AIIMS. Based on the EAC recommendations, the Environment Ministry has given environmental clearance for the project 'Expansion of AIIMS Residential Colony' at Ayurvigyan Nagar, New Delhi," a senior Environment Ministry official said.
The total cost of the expansion project is about Rs 360 crore, the official added.
