Govt hospital stops admitting patients amid water scarcity

In an indication of the unprecedented severity of the drought that has gripped Marathwada region of Maharashtra, a government-run hospital here stopped admitting new patients from today because of water scarcity.
The two borewells on the premises of the Osmanabad Government Ayurvedic Hospital here ran dry three days ago, forcing the administration to take this step, said the Dean, Dr Prakash Khaparde.
The medical college attached to the hospital as well as the students' hostels were closed due to water scarcity and about 150 students asked to go home two days ago, Khaparde told PTI.
In the 170-bedded hospital, there are at present around 80 patients.

Shiv Sena district president Sudhir Patil said the hospital on its own cannot stop admitting patients in this way and demanded an inquiry into the matter.
Shiv Sena will provide a water tanker to the hospital, he claimed.
