Government today said it has imposed anti-dumping duty on low ash metallurgical coke originating in or exported from Australia and People's Republic of China.
"Anti-dumping Duty has been imposed on low ash metallurgical coke originating in or exported from Australia and People's Republic of China," Central Board of Excise and Customs said in a tweet.
"ADD shall be effective for a period of 5 years from the date of publication of the above notification in the Official Gazette," it added.
Indian domestic met coke sector had made a case to the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping & Allied Duties (DGAD) for protection of the local industry from cheap imports from Australia and China.
Following this, DGAD initiated a probe in December 2015 on the scope of levying such duty.
Met coke, a key raw material for the steel sector, constitutes 40-50 per cent of the total cost of crude steel.
