The government has been made it mandatory for company directors to obtain DIN. To hold multiple DINs by a single individual is not permissible under the Companies Law.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha today, Corporate Affairs Minister Arun Jaitely said that 35 persons have been allotted multiple DIN in the current fiscal, while 53 individuals obtained multiple DINs in the past financial year.
Besides, 48 individuals and 333 persons obtained multiple DINs in 2012-13 and 2011-12 respectively.
"Action has been imitated against these 469 persons," Jaitley said.

Moreover, since 2013, 1,361 DINs have been cancelled, the Minister said.
In order to reduce the instances of multiple allotment of DINs, Jaitely said the ministry has made PAN (Permanent Account Number) mandatory in DIN applications.
The application is accepted only when the information with regard to name, father's name and date of birth is validated against the PAN data maintained by Income Tax department.
