"To the large population, radio nearly became defunct but now it has been rejuvenated with FM transmission. A new social media wing has been created to be able to use the power of social media to the maximum so that people get to know about their government," Rathore, who was here to inaugurate the transmission of All India Radio, Vividh Bharati in FM 100.5 MHz, said.
This year's republic day parade was not only broadcast on Doordarshan live but also live streamed on YouTube, he said.
On the status of Digital Radio Mondiale, he said the government was planning to set up 36 DRM transmitters by July this year.
On Vividh Bharathi, which would be available in FM and also in MW 383.1 Mtrs, Rathore said, "we promise the people of Chennai that in 11 months' time we will enhance the capability of the transmitter to reach out to farther areas."

"In two and a half years time, we will be able to cover 65 per cent of the country with FM broadcast from the present 45 per cent," he said.
"It might take time but results will show and once results show, the entire country, economy and people, will be able to elevate it to a higher level from where we are right now," the Minister said.
