This information was given by Health Minister Nitin Patel in reply to a query by Anil Joshiyara (Congress) during the Question Hour.
In a written reply, he said of the sanctioned strength of 1,492, 432 posts of teaching staff across 33-odd faculties of these colleges are yet to be filled by Government.
The Government medical colleges are at Bhavnagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Jamnagar.
According to the figures provided by Patel, out of the total sanctioned strength of 207 Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in various faculties, 77 posts are lying vacant.
Asked when the Government wishes to fill these vacant posts, Patel said appointments will be made "when the Government finds eligible candidates".
