Govt medical institutes to implement Bio-Medical Waste Act

Presiding over a meeting of superintendents of government medical colleges and hospitals, BSPCB chairman Subhash Chandra Singh asked them to put in place equipment like incinerators and shredders for treatnment and disposal of bio-medical wastes as under the central act in this regard.

Government medical institutions failing to implement the act would be dealt with sternly, he said.

BSPCB has issued show cause notices to 333 health centres for its failure to abide by the norms, while 131 health centres have been directed to take the measures at the earliest.
