'Govt not implementing reservation in contractual employment'

Congress today criticised SAD-BJP led Punjab government for not implementing reservation policy in contractual employment.
During the Question Hour in the ongoing Punjab Assembly here, Congress MLA Charanjit Singh Channi said the state government was not following reservation norms while hiring on contract in different departments.
"The government should assure the House that whether it will ensure that reservation will be given in contractual employment in the state," he said.
Replying to it, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal accused the opposition party of politicising the issue, saying Akalis provided maximum support to Scheduled Castes in the state.
"Maximum welfare activities for poor were undertaken by Akali in the state," he claimed.
Punjab Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal also asked Deputy CM on why the reservation policy is not being implemented in contractual employment in the stat, attracting criticism from the members on the opposition benches.

Earlier, Akali MLA Justice Nirmal Singh has also pointed out that reservation policy was not being followed in outsourced jobs in the state, demanding statement from Deputy CM on this issue.
"Reservation is applicable to vacancy to be filled on adhoc basis, daily wages staff, staff engaged on contract basis. Reservation particularly in class IV category is not being followed where it is needed the most," Singh said.
Earlier on a separate question, Congress MLA Charanjit Singh Channi has said that despite huge population of SC in the state, the government was unable to find SC people for the job of drivers, conductors in the state.
Later, Speaker allowed to hold discussion on the plight of state farmers as demanded by Congress on September 23.
