"The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has notified norms for the use of bio-CNG for testing and exhaust emission for vehicles running on bio-CNG and the related norms," an official statement read today.
"With this notification, vehicle manufacturers can manufacture, sell and get the vehicles fuelled by bio-CNG in the country."
The specifications on test reference fuel for bio-ethanol vehicles were earlier notified by the Ministry.
"The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has started the initiative of promoting vehicles which are powered by clean fuels like bio-ethanol, bio-CNG, bio-Diesel, electric batteries, etc," the statement added.

"Waste can be converted into wealth. Use of clean fuel like ethanol and bio-diesel can reduce carbon-dioxide emission by 95 per cent. We have taken a decision to encourage bio-fuel and alternative fuel," Gadkari had said earlier.
Promoting clean fuel will have a positive impact on GDP growth as well, the minister had reasoned.
An ethanol-powered bus manufactured by Scania has already been running in Nagpur as part of the broader initiative.
