"If parties with sharp conflicting political and economic ideologies come together and form the government in the states and at the Centre, economic growth and business environment will take a hit," said Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat, citing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's decision to step down yesterday.
The AAP government resigned after it suffered a defeat on the Janlokpal Bill in the Delhi Assembly.
"In Delhi, the unfolding political situation has not really surprised us in the industry since there was no meeting ground between the AAP and the supporting Congress Party," Rawat said.
"A large and overwhelming segment of the industry wants to conduct its affairs in a transparent and honest manner. It is the political leadership which should provide an enabling environment," he added.
