Govt official held for accepting bribe of Rs 2.50 lakh

A senior official attached with Khopoli municipal school board in neighbouring Raigad district was today arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2.50 lakh by the sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Bhaskar Suryavanshi, administrative officer of Khopoli municipal school board had demanded Rs 2.50 lakh for an official favour, PI Dileep Vichare of Thane Division ACB said.
The complainant's wife is a handicapped primary school teacher and the accused had demanded money to clear cheque of fifth pay commission after his wife had passed B.Ed exams, he said.
Following a complaint, a trap was laid and Suryavanshi was apprehended while accepting the bribe at Khopoli railway station, Vichare said, adding a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered.
