The government today decided to hand over about 4.6 acres of defence land on lease basis to a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Gurgaon for the construction of a school building and other related infrastructure.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its approval for transfer on lease basis of 4.687 acres (instead of earlier approved 15.19 acres) of Defence land in perpetuity to the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS) for construction of school building and other related infrastructure required for proper functioning of KV No. 2, Sohna Road, Gurgaon.
The land is to be transferred on lease basis at a nominal rent of Rs 1 per annum (without any premium) and in terms of existing government policy on the subject, an official statement said.
The formalities relating to transfer of land to the school would be completed within a period of three months.
The KVS will thereupon construct school building among others on the leased land as per their own specifications and at their own cost.
The school, with classes up to Class VIII, is presently functioning from a temporary building.
The transfer of land would enable the KVS to construct a new school building and associated infrastructure like laboratories, examination hall, auditorium, sports ground, among others required for expansion from Class VIII to Class XII.
This would provide a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning and increased educational opportunities for the children of both Defence personnel and civilians enrolled in the school.
