The move comes after the success of the pilot POPSK projects in Mysore and Dahod in Gujarat (in January), the External Affairs Ministry said today.
The new POPSKs at Asansol, Kavaratti, Kota, Muzaffarpur, Pathanamthitta, Raiganj, Rourkela, Salem, Udhampur and Vidisha have since been inaugurated, taking the total number of POPSK in the country to 12 (twelve), MEA Spokesperson Gopal Baglay said.
The Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Posts (DoP) have joined hands to open these facilities. In February, the government had announced to open 64 additional POPSKs -- 56 in the first batch, eight in the second batch in various states of the country.
"MEA and DoP are working closely for the early commencement of passport-related services at the remaining 73 POPSKs," it said.
