Belgaum MPs Prabhakar Kore and Suresh Angadi have been demanding shifting of the firing range as it was causing problems relating to agriculture and mobility.
Farmers of nine villages surrounding the firing range have also been raising objections over construction works taken up by MLIR on 7301.06 acre of private land belonging to them.
The MPs said the land which is being used as firing range belongs to the government, while MLIR claimed it has got the land from the British.
The government in its order also directed Belgaum Deputy Commissioner to set up a land audit committee to ascertain the exact requirement of land for firing range.
The order said the district administration would not allow MLIR to carry out any construction on the 7301.06 acre of private land and requested the Defence Ministry to pay compensation to all farmers whose lands have been used by MLIR as firing range.
