Home Minister Rajnath Singh said it must be ensured that adequate security arrangements were in place for all such installations which include nuclear and aerospace buildings, sensitive government departments and power and energy set-up among others.
"The Home Minister further directed that the security audit of vital installations, wherever due, may be carried out and additional forces deployed, if found necessary, so as to ensure that adequate security arrangements are in place for such installations," a statement by the Home Ministry said.
The Home Minister gave the directions during a review meeting of the functioning of the Policy Planning Division of the Ministry.
According to Ministry sources, there are about 500 vital installations in the country of which 200 are secured by the CISF while rest by the state governments.
The security audit is usually carried out by a joint-team of Intelligence Bureau and local security heads.
The order for review comes amid reports that Ibrahim Awwad al-Badri, commander of the insurgent group Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), has vowed war against several countries, including India.
