Terming the import of large quantities of pharmaceutical ingredients from China as "unfortunate", government today said it plans to boost their production in the country.
Responding to a question on import of 'interior' quality of active pharmaceutical ingredients from China, Minister of State for Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said it is "unfortunate" that India continues to import these ingredients from countries like China and six mega parks are also planned in this regard.
He said there are also plans to revive two old plants and steps have already been initiated in this regard.
Responding to a separate question on maximum residue limit of pesticides allowed in food items in the country, Minister of State for Agriculture Sanjay Balyan said in certain cases the limit has not been set for some pesticides but the government is making efforts to ensure that such a limit is decided in the near future.
Pesticide residues on crops are monitored through the use of Maximum Residue Limits, based on the analysis of the quantity of a given chemical remaining on food product samples.
