Govt plans to install CCTV cameras to curb corruption

To curb entry of touts at government offices and bring transparency in administrative functioning, Delhi government plans to keep an eye on all such workplaces through CCTV cameras.
Sources said a proposal in this regard has been prepared by the government and sent to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung for his approval.
The aim of the project is to reduce corruption at government offices and strengthen public grievance system.
The offices which will be covered in the first phase include regional transport offices, hospitals, sub-registrars offices and social welfare offices.
"The offices will be monitored through a control room. After receiving any complaints related to money sought by touts or bribe, CCTV footage will come handy in taking action," said sources.

The costs for installing CCTV cameras at all these public dealing places are estimated to be around five-six crore rupees, said sources adding that video-conferencing system which would link public officials to the control would be taken up in the next phase.
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced the project of installing the video-conferencing system and directed Chief Secretary to supervise the project. However, Kejriwal soon resigned after facing stiff opposition from BJP and Congress over Jan Lokpal bill.
Soon after taking the administration of Delhi in his hands after imposition of President's rule, Jung had directed Chief Secretary S K Srivastava to look into the matter of installation of CCTV in field offices and their regular monitoring through control room of Public Grievance Monitoring system.
