The Centre plans to renovate Jawaharlal Nehru memorial and publish books to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of the country's first Prime Minister.
"The main work is... Looking at his papers, renovation of Nehru Memorial, publishing books, etc," Culture Secretary Ravindra Singh said, when asked about the government's plan for the event.
He said a budget of Rs 20 crore had already been sanctioned for it. The erstwhile Congress-led UPA government had decided to hold year-long celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of the leader.
The government, led by BJP which has long been critical of Nehru's policies, has apparently gone for a change of the plans.
Singh was speaking at a press conference held by Tourism and Culture Minister Shripad Yesso Naik to list his ministry's "achievements" since the new government took over.
