Currently, DMS has 574 milk booths in Delhi.
"DMS proposes to set up 24 ... Milk booths in slum areas of Delhi, out which four have already been constructed," Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Charan Das Mahant said in his written reply to the Lok Sabha.
These booths will be constructed in slum areas in colonies such as Jawalpuri, Tilak Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Tagore Garden, Madipur, Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri, Dakshinpuri, Khanpur and Banjara camp in the national capital, he added.
On taking over of DMS operation by Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that owns Amul brand, the minister said in a separate reply that the government has received a proposal in this regard.
"GCMMF was requested to submit a comprehensive and detailed proposal covering various aspects of the matter. However, same has not been received from GCMMF," he added.
Delhi Milk Scheme comes under the Agriculture Ministry, which has been toying with the idea of corporatisation of DMS for some time.
The DMS has milk production and packaging capacity of 5 lakh litres per day. DMS has 800 employees, but the milk production is only about 2.75 lakh litres per day.
