Recognising the sacrifice being made by police and paramilitary personnel, government will soon come out with a policy of conferring gallantry awards to those who are deployed in different theatres of action.
The forces engaged in offensives against Maoists, militants in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeastern states will be entitled to the awards under the proposed policy, official sources said today.
Those who show exemplary courage, dedication and sacrifice will be given the gallantry and bravery awards in addition to case prize, special increment and promotion in the service, they said.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh has given an indication to this effect today.
Singh said government has decided to confer gallantry awards on security personnel who sacrificed their lives in recent Naxal attacks in Chhattisgarh and said it would also extend benefits to their kin.
"We have also finalised other facilities to be given (to their family members). We will make a proper announcement as soon as possible," he told reporters here on the sidelines of a function.
There have been grievances of state police forces, CRPF, BSF and other paramilitary forces deployed in different theatres of action of not being given enough incentives and awards for performance of their duties in comparison to armed forces.
