Govt procures cargo handling equipment for Andaman & Nicobar

The government has procured cargo handling equipment for several islands under Andaman & Nicobar.
"This procurement is part of a project that was initiated in December 2014 to procure cargo handling equipment for various islands at a cost of Rs 39.02 crore with a completion timeline of 36 months," Ministry of Shipping said in a statement.
The proposals consists of procurement of cargo handling equipment at Port Blair, Mayabunder, Kamorta, Katchal, Rangat, car Nicobar, Diglipur Islands and Janglighat harbour, it said.
Out of these, cargo handling equipment have been commissioned at Mayabunder, Kamorta, Diglipur and a few at Port Blair, it said.
Equipment already procured and commissioned include mobile cranes, forklifts, crawler crane, trailors, tractors, aerial lift, acoustic enclosure diesel generating set and hydraulic controlled power hacksaw machines among other things.
"Apart from the equipment, Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works is also acquiring two tugs at a cost of Rs 63.55 crore which will be acquired by October, 2016. These tugs will help to facilitate the berthing operations," the statement said.
