Congress in Maharashtra has accused the BJP-Shiv Sena government of pursuing political vendetta against opposition parties to hide its failures.
The government is trying to muzzle the voice of dissent raised by the opposition, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Chavan told reporters here yesterday.
Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao had earlier this month given sanction to the CBI to prosecute Chavan in the Adarsh housing society scam case.
"It is a political vendetta by the BJP-led government in Maharashtra against the principal Opposition party Congress," Chavan, a former chief minister, said.
He said the government should not adopt such a stand against leaders of opposition parties as they have the right to corner the state government and criticise its policies.
Referring to the ongoing 'Make In India Week' in Maharashtra, he said the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) do not automatically mean guaranteed investment in the state.
"The government should initiate investment in the backward regions like Vidarbha and Marathwada. This (Make in India Week going on in Mumbai) conclave should be beneficial for the backward region," Chavan said.
"It is not clear which district will be benefited from MoUs (being signed at the MII Week)," the Congress leader said.
