Government has roped in state-run National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd (NBCC) to carry out the feasibility study and conditional assessment of river Ganga for the entry-level activities in Bihar.
The entry-level activities will include modernisation and provision of public amenities at ghats, repair, cleaning of the river surface, treatment of directly discharging drains in villages along Ganga and repair, renovation and construction of crematoria.
These activities will deploy improvised wood based cremation platforms, advanced trash skimming machines for removal of floating solid wastes, bio-toilets and bio remediation based sewage treatment in rural areas.
"Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Govt of India has awarded the work to National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) to carry out work on Condition Assessment & Feasibility Study and Entry Level Activities under National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) for all towns and cities of Bihar on the bank of river Ganga," NBCC said in a regulatory filing.
Last week in an official statement, the Water Resources Ministry has said that government has decided to rope in Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in the Namami Gange Programme.
In May this year, the Cabinet had approved the "Namami Gange" programme, which integrates the efforts to clean and protect the River Ganga in a comprehensive manner.
The programme has a budget outlay of Rs 20,000 crore for the next 5 years.
