Govt seeks data on senior officials from backward classes

The action was necessitated following a demand from a Parliamentary Committees on 'Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes' and 'Welfare of Other Backward Classes', which are deliberating on the issue of representation of SCs, STs and OBCs at higher positions in the Central government.

"All Ministries or Departments are, therefore, requested to furnish the detail of officers at higher positions...To this department latest by July 31," the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)said in a circular issued to all central ministries, PSUs and banks.

It said that the Committees have asked the DoPT to furnish details of officers holding senior positions in the Central government.

"Such type of information as well as information about Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and persons belonging to minority community is also sought for through various Parliament Questions," the circular said.

According to an official data updated till December 2010, there were a total of 59,809 backlog reserved vacancies as on November 1, 2008.
