Govt seizes bottles of illicit liquor

Cracking the whip on illicit liquor traders, Delhi Government has seized 5940 bottles of liquor from various parts of the national capital and registered cases against 11 persons.
"In our special drive launched against the persons involved in the trade of illicit liquor, we have recovered 5940 bottles of illicit liquor," Commissioner Excise, J B Singh said today.
He said that a number of teams were formed and raids were conducted in various parts of the city today.
Singh said that this lot of illicit liqour was non-duty paid in the capital and was being carried by the accused unauthorisedly.
Giving details of raids, Singh said 96 bottles of Besto Whisky for sale in Arunachal Pradesh and 264 bottles of Asli Santra for sale in Haryana were recovered, and Lancer vehicle was confiscated in Sonia Vihar. A case in this regard has been registered in Khajoori Khas Police Station.
In another case, a resident of Narela, who was arrested by Burari police for allegedly carrying 48 bottles of Besto Whisky for sale in Arunachal Pradesh and 684 bottles of Asli Santra for sale in Haryana.

Besides, 144 bottles of McDowel Whisky and 336 bottles of Rasila Santra for sale in Haryana were recovered from a person in Badarpur and case has been registered in Sarita Vihar Police Station in this regard.
Singh said that the prior to this, Excise Department during its raids conducted at various places has seized a huge stock of illicit liquor.
The Department has recovered 14400 bottles of illicit liquor of different brands and cases were registered under Delhi Excise Act 2009.
The vehicles used in the crime were also confiscated. Till now the excise Department has seized 20340 Bottles of illicit liquor in Delhi this year.
"Raids will continue in the capital to check the discrepancies and to find whether the provisions are followed properly or not. Stringent action will be taken against the persons found violating the provisions," said Singh.
