"The Metro Advisory Board is constituted for the purpose of assisting and advising the central government in matters pertaining to metro railways," Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna told reporters here today.
"To be more specific, the Metro advisory board will be formulating and coordinating plans for the development of Metro railways and its expansion," he said.
Krishna said that the board would also look into matters related to financing and execution of any project for the construction of the metro railway.
"The Board would also facilitate exchange of information on planning, technical and managerial issues among various metro rail projects," the secretary said.
He said that another function of the board would be standardisation of various technical parameters as well as various tender conditions, monitoring procedures and formats.
The Board would also work towards indigenisation of various components being used in Metro Rail systems in the country, Krishna said.

The first meeting of the Metro Advisory Board is slated to be held on June 29 at the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) under the Railways Ministry in Lucknow.
Apart from Krishna, who would be the chairperson of the board, other members include A P Mishra and Kul Bhushan, both members of Railway Board, V Ramachandran, Director General of RDSO, Anjuly Chib Duggal from the Finance Ministry, Prem Narain, Principal Advisor Planning Commission.
S K Lohia, who is the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Urban Development Ministry, would be the Member Secretary of the Board. (MORE)
