The government should conduct a survey of the flood-affected regions immediately, and provide compensation to the people there after assessment of the loss, state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel said today.
The incessant rain has triggered the water level in almost all the major dams of the state and rivers like Mahanadi, Sheonath, Arpa, Kharun, Hasdeo and others are flowing above the danger mark, which has disrupted the normal life and caused damage to the kharif crop in several regions, he said.
The farmers of Balodabazar-Bhatapara, Gariyaband, Kanker, Bastar, Janjgir-Champa and Raigarh have suffered heavy loss as rainfall has damaged their soyabean and paddy crops, Baghel claimed.
"Unfortunately, farmers who were earlier facing troubles due to poor monsoon, are now bearing the brunt of heavy rain," he added.
Blaming the government for its alleged inaction on the part of ensuring speedy relief to people in the flood affected areas, Baghel sought an immediate relief be provided to the people, including farmers.
He also asked his party workers to make contact with people in affected areas and ensure that government reliefs are reaching to them.
