Govt to deploy RRTs to deal with man-animal conflict

The RRTs would tackle man-animal conflict leading to casualties and losses on both sides and brutal attack by some people on wild animals straying out from their habitats, an official release said here today.

The teams will be deployed in Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Goalpara, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Darrang, Barpeta, Karbi Anglong and Udalguri districts as well as in Kaziranga National Park.

The teams will be put in place within a month's time and will comprise forest department personnel equipped with vehicles, cages and tranquilising equipments.

A high-level committee comprising of the Principal Secretary (Environment and Forest) as Chairman and members including Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, PCCF (Wild Life) and Additional Chief Conservator of Forests (Wild Life), Assam is constituted to ensure timely implementation on the measures announced by the government.
