"All out efforts must be directed towards improving the economic lot of the marginalised section. Towards this end, our government will extend all possible help and support to the NGOs that want to help the underprivileged segments of society," Gogoi said at a function organised by a social organisation here.
The Chief Minister said there should be concerted efforts towards providing the facilities to the differently-abled persons and added that NGOs could play a pivotal role in this regard.
"Each and every one of us must come forward to help the underprivileged and marginalised segments so that they get a firm foothold in society, thus enabling them to eke out a decent living," .
He said it is the duty of society to reach out to the underprivileged and marginalised segments.
"We must espouse the cause of the neglected and deprived sections of society and give them the rights they deserve. They are not liabilities but assets to our society," he said.
Expressing concern over women trafficking, Chief Minister Gogoi said that steps are being initiated by government to tackle the problem.
