An online essay competition which encourages students to learn the life and works of famed Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar would be held this month, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani today said.
"We have requested CBSE that an online essay competition be held in the middle of January which encourages students to learn the life and works of Thiruvalluvar," she told reporters while releasing a booklet on him.
The book has been penned by BJP MP Tarun Vijay.
Asked whether the works of Thiruvalluvar would be incorporated in the curriculum of the NCERT, she hoped that such works may find place after the framing of the new national education policy.
"We are starting a new education policy discussion across all states and my experience is that every state has rich heritage and culture that we can celebrate. I am hoping that initiatives like this would be part of the national education policy."
Irani also said that the online essay competition on Thiruvalluvar would be available in 22 scheduled languages across the country.
