Inaugurating a day-long national seminar on 'Sediment management in Indian rivers', the CWC chairman said silting of rivers has assumed "serious" proportions over the years.
He observed that sediment management till late was based on limited scientific knowledge and opined that a different approach to sediment management is "desirable".
The day-long conference was attended by expert member of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) M A Chitale and IIT-Kanpur professor Vinod Tare.
