The Puducherry Agriculturists Union affiliated to CPI today asked the administration to intervene immediately and arrange for settlement of dues from local sugar mills to sugarcane growers.
General Secretary of the Union T.Geethanathan said in a release here today that the union had at its state level committee meeting adopted a resolution criticising the delay in disbursement of payment to sugarcane growers by a privately run sugar mill and also the cooperative sugar mill at Lingareddipalayam here.
The Union also adopted resolutions seeking waiver of dues from farmers for power consumption, distribution of farm inputs at subsidised rates and addressing the woes of farmers.
The Union also asked farmers to participate in the May 14 agitation organised by CPI to condemn the Centre's current move to amend the Land Bill as the step would hit the farmers immensely, Geethanathan said.
