With opposition members raising the banner against Karnataka government's move to trifurcate the city corporation, state Minister T B Jayachandra today said government will successfully push through the legislation on the issue during the one-day session of state Assembly.
"The government will successfully push through the legislation on the issue of trifurcation of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike during one-day session of state assembly," the state Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister told reporters here.
The session of state Assembly has been convened on April 20 after Governor Vajubhai Vala did not give assent to the ordinance for trifurcating BBMP drafted by Siddaramaiah-led Congress government.
The Governor reportedly was not satisfied with government's response on the need for bringing in the ordinance.
A Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court had recently declined to stay the single judge bench's order to hold BBMP elections by May 30. Both opposition BJP and JD(S) are against government's move to trifurcate BBMP and want the elections to be held as per the schedule.
The two parties have staged protests and petitioned the Governor against the government's move, which they consider to be a deliberate attempt to delay election.
