"The government will successfully push through the legislation on the issue of trifurcation of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike during one-day session of state assembly," the state Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister told reporters here.
The session of state Assembly has been convened on April 20 after Governor Vajubhai Vala did not give assent to the ordinance for trifurcating BBMP drafted by Siddaramaiah-led Congress government.
A Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court had recently declined to stay the single judge bench's order to hold BBMP elections by May 30. Both opposition BJP and JD(S) are against government's move to trifurcate BBMP and want the elections to be held as per the schedule.
The two parties have staged protests and petitioned the Governor against the government's move, which they consider to be a deliberate attempt to delay election.
