A bill on Motor Vehicles, which became infructuous after the passage of a similar bill in Parliament this year, was withdrawn from Rajya Sabha today.
The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2014, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on December 18, 2014 and later laid in the Rajya Sabha on December 19, 2014, was withdrawn by Minister of State for Road and Transport P Radhakrishnan.
The bill was withdrawn as it became infructuous with Parliament passing a similar bill earlier this year.
Parliament had passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2015 in the Lok Sabha on March 3 and and later in the Rajya Sabha on March 11.
The new bill seeks to amend the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and replace the ordinance promulgated in this regard. The ordinance was promulgated in January 2015 after the 2014 bill was not able to pass in the winter session of Parliament.
