The solid waste processing plant, which resumed operations in August after a gap of four years, was envisaged for the city under JNNURM on PPP modelwith capacity of 600 TPD.
In May, NTPC was handed over the task to revive the plant and complete the pending work. NTPC made the plant functional within three months of taking up the task.
Goyal said that the dispute between Varanasi Municipal Corporation and the company engaged in waste collection and disposal had led to itsabandonment since 2012.
After the make-over, the plant capacity has been gradually increased and after processing 6,100 MT of waste in the first month of operation, has been able to process the entire daily waste collection from the city for 4 consecutive days since 15th October 2016.
Goyal also held meeting with officialsto review the progress of various central government schemes in the Varanasi district.
