Graft charges: Inspector, head constable in judicial custody

An inspector and head constable have been arrested for allegedly accepting money to hush up a case of mobile theft.
According to police, the inspector, Sekharan arrested a youth and recovered 10 cellphones from his possession two days ago and summoned another youth, to inquire about the case.
The inspector allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from the youth to hush up the case, police said.
The youth informed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) wing, who directed him to pay some marked currency notes to the inspector.
Agreeing to pay Rs 5,000, the youth went to the police station and reportedly paid the money to head constable Dhadnpal following which the anti-corruption department officials nabbed him last night, they said.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of Sekharan little later, they said.
They were produced before a Special Court dealing with corruption Cases this morning and Judge John Mino remanded them to custody till November 24.
They have been lodged in the central jail, police said.
