Gram Pradhan beaten to death in UP

The Gram Pradhan of Uttarpara village was today beaten to death by five persons over a land dispute in Mohanganj area here, police said.
Rampal Verma Lodh (52) was beaten to death with canes by five persons when the deceased was working at a pond which was allegedly encroached by the accused, Superintendent of Police (SP) Amethi, Hira Lal said.
The Pradhan was rushed to a hospital but he succumbed to injuries on the way, he said.
The body has been sent for postmortem, he said.
The accused have been identified as Babulal Passi, Kotedar of the village, his sons Rahul and Tej Bahadur and brothers Ram Baran and Saheb Din, Senior Sub-Inspector of Mohanganj police station, Girish Shriwastava said.

Two persons have been arrested and an FIR has been registered against the five accused, he said.
Additional police force has been deployed in the village to prevent any untoward incident, they said.
